Soaring health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket expenses are pushing families into bankruptcy or forcing them to go without the care they need. Over 46 million Americans have no medical coverage at all. Business owners fear they’ll be forced to choose between keeping their doors open or covering their workers. And ballooning costs of Medicare and Medicaid threaten to lead to fiscal catastrophe down the road. Simply put, the status quo is broken.

If we continue on our current course, within a decade we’ll spend one dollar out of every five we earn on health care – and we’ll keep getting less for our money.

Fixing what’s wrong with our health care system is no longer a luxury we hope to achieve – it’s a necessity we cannot postpone any longer.

President Obama has called for health care reform in 2009 that upholds three core principles. It must:

  • Reduce costs — Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals, and families, and they must be brought under control
  • Guarantee choice — Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor – including the choice of a public insurance option
  • Ensure quality care for all — All Americans must have quality and affordable health care

Sign the declaration of support and tell Congress to pass real health care reform in 2009.
