This morning's Dispatch (3/9) reports the possibility of a primary race between Franklin County Commissioners Mary Jo Kilroy and Paula Brooks for the right to run against Deborah Pryce next year. Mary Jo is officially running, Paula just in the exploratory stages ("nothing personal," she says), but it makes me wonder whether there are serious issues here or just a popularity contest.
There's no doubt that Pryce is vulnerable. She held onto her seat by the skin of her teeth last time around (thanks--IMHO--to some mistakes by the Kilroy campaign) and my sense is that the current, nationally and locally, is still running against the GOP. But unless primaries are about ideas and policies, they're distracting, potentially divisive, and a waste of resources. If Brooks really wants to run, she owes us a principled platform.
