Presidential Candidates: Hard Choices

My daughter says a college friend of hers is volunteering for both the Obama and Kucinich campaigns. He really likes both candidates, and
wants as many people as possible to know about them. And I heard a radio interview with the head of the Iowa College Dems, who said they are all working to support all the campaigns, because they don't want another acrimonious split like the one they had between Dean and Kerry supporters in '04.
It feels wonderful to have so many bright, articulate candidates on our side, but eventually we are going to have to choose. I saw Bill Clinton on C-Span last night -- he was great -- warm, articulate, compassionate, brilliant. But I remember NAFTA, CAFTA, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and Lani Guinere with real disappointment. My husband thinks a lot of people really believe they will have Bill back if they vote for Hillary. Maybe -- but that isn't what I want, even though I love the guy (I like Carter better as a former president too).
John Edwards gave a rousing speech last week about not negotiating with the corporate interests. The populist message resonated with me. And he reminded the audience of how much corporate interests hated FDR and how FDR saw that as a badge of honor. But Edwards thinks gay marriage is wrong.
Barack is so bright and articulate and my kids love him. But what was that stuff about Iran about? And why is it that his European subcommittee of the Foreign Relations Committee has never met?
Biden can put his foot in his mouth too easily. Chris Dodd was courageous and excellent with the one man fillibuster in favor of our besieged civil rights but I don't see a lot else. Mike Gravel is great fun, Bill Richardson has an amazing resume, and every time I take one of those polls where they give you series of quotes to see whose views fit yours best, I wind up in the Kucinich camp.
So I'll go to the 15th district caucus this week and support my friends who want to go to the convention for Edwards (they asked WADC for our votes). And I'll keep hoping that when the time comes I can be an enthusiastic team player. But I am worried about the corporate control.
And could we have a shorter campaign next time?
