Start of a Blog

Well, ya gotta start somewhere.  This is an "intro" post.  This blog will concentrate on the issues most dear to my heart; social justice, civil rights, human rights and separation of church and state.

I am a woman very frightened by the direction our Administration has taken us over the last few years in terms of our civil liberties.  There have been so many "Executive Decisions" made that fall into the category of "the ends justify the means".  In the name of "Security and Patriotism" we are slowly being stripped of our basic civil rights.  What they don't seem to understand is that the very Rights that are being taken away are the very Rights that we supposedly are fighting for; the Rights that have made us the prototype of freedom.  I can't help but think that those brave men and women who, over the last 100+ years, lost their lives to actually safeguard those freedoms would be appalled at what is happening.  Every time we are stripped of a civil Right our enemies have won a battle.  We can't let them win the "war".

In the last 6 years we have seen one civil liberty stripped from us after another. The demise of habeas corpus should have scared the complacency out of all of us, but that has not seemed to be the case. Oh, and Welcome!

"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security"

remember that powerful quote that has now become almost a cliche.... but there has to be something to it, or otherwise it wouldn't have survived 200+ years to come knocking at out door in the 21st century as vivid and important as it has ever been
