Spare The "Pastor Rod" and Spoil The Child?

A jury has awarded nearly $6 million to a Canal Winchester couple, holding World Harvest Church and a substitute teacher there liable for a spanking incident at its day care last year.

Not surprising...World Harvest Church should be held responsible for someone it employs to teach kids. They did not do the right thing here and a lawsuit was that couple's only recourse. The kicker here was that $5 million was punitive damages. If World Harvest had acted properly and dealt with the matter in an appropriate manner, it wouldn't have come to this.

The center is closed. That is a good thing. Incidents like these reflect poorly on the job that professional child care workers do on a daily basis. There are many excellent professionals in this field statewide.
Parents who must rely on centers to provide quality care for their children should not have to be worried about staff conduct. There are plenty of good childcare centers within Franklin County. It is too bad that this one was not in that group.
