During This Political Season

It is now the O~State's turn to participate in the process of selecting who will be the nominee for the presidential election.
I expect that this is going to be a very heated contest. After this past Tuesday on the Potomac, it is obvious that the next rounds of elections are going to be important to all of the candidates and their supporters.
Bring on the noise and bring on the stump! It is time to express our choices where it matters. A time when all the battling on the different issues comes to a reality point.
I am going to relish every moment of the events. The good, the bad and the ulgy! I am participating in one of the major historical events of this decade in the 21st Century.
An event that will be shared by three generations of my family. How we participate in the political process will impact the fourth generation's future. .
For my parents generation, this has been like a cool spring water drink on a hot day. They have lived long enough to see a black man making his presence known among the people of these United States. They have seen that he is being well received. For my generation it is time to consider what type of politics we want to practice in this century. For my children's generation it is their active learning time about how things work in American politics.
The wisdom of our elders is showing. Even if they are not going to support Obama, they have respect for his achievements. They understand that this is a moment of history that they have never seen in all of their decades of living.
Many of our elders participated in the campaigns run by other black politicans who ran for president, this is the one that is satisfying their souls. It has revitalized their hopes about their children, grandchildren and great grandhildren and on down the line.
When you are a member of the "majority" society it is not difficult to see things from that particular viewpoint. The imagery and the cultural values are based upon majority beliefs. It is easy to believe that your values and shared opinions are accepted by all Americans. While that is true about the universal concern issues, there are still issues that you do not relate to in the same manner that people of color do.
When you are a POC, that same view is there to see, but the big difference is the interpretation of the view. Often the exclusion is the main focal point that is presented to us. Or we must devise a way to make inclusion happen within the society.
Many people have had a difficult time with the idea that this is no longer the melting pot. It has become a peppa pot, which is a soup that cooks continually and everyone contributes to the flavor of the mixture. Peppa pot soup is shared by all. Whether you contribute something to mix or not. Eventually it will be your turn to make a contribution. So that all can benefit from your efforts.
I have learned a lot about myself during this particular political season. My temperment in this particular attitude climate has often gone from outraged to completely heated in a matter of moments. I have also given up my praise dances and thanks for each victory that has been won. Those moments are not just about the outcome of a vote. Either you understand that statement or you do not get it.
We are actually seeing what the nation thinks as a collective political body. The influences of the previous century are being challenged to meet the needs of this particular century. This is not the traditional dictation politics that we practiced during every previous election.
The issues of race and gender have been aired in the public arena in all manners of ways. It is also the time when the doves and hawks meet to see which way we will move on. We need national coverage in so many areas. It is not just health insurance that needs to be worked on by this particular legislative body. Education, housing, economics, domestic well being is definitely on a must do list.
I am enjoying this entire process with a inner glee that cannot be described on any blogsite that I post on.
I do not know what the outcome will be here on March 4, that remains to be seen. But while we are moving in that direction, I will be paying attention to all of the details. Taking in every moment that occurs in my personal sphere of life. Also within the state that I call home. I plan to be active enough to push for what I believe will be the right direction at this point in time. I love to see tradition broken to be made whole. That is how it has been for American~me during my entire lifetime.
If I am blessed with the gift of longivity and my granddaughters ask me about this time, I will be able to share with them the wonder of it all. Plus the lessons they will need to know as people of color within the boarders of these United States. Just like my elders before me, I will be keeping the charge to carry on.
