Post from ColumbusMoveOnblog:
Franklin County Needs Precinct Captains!
Hi all

I just spoke with the Franklin County Precinct Captain organizer. They very much need precinct captains! If yours is already filled, which it likely is not --they will give you a nearby open precinct. Think about this-- Kilroy lost to Pryce by a few thousand votes in the last election. If just two or three more precincts were organized that seat would be ours now. And it will be next election IF we organize! There is a training this OCTOBER 11th in the evening.

So to do this... email the following address, Mary Woods (a volunteer, very nice, on vacation for a few days) and she will get back to you. mwoods@ohiodems.org
Or call and leave a message 614-224-1193

Here is a site link for more information along with the general list of duties for a captain.

ALSO: Democracy for America is running a month long series of phone call training sessions on this. If you can't make them they are stored and can be listened to as pod casts at their site. Here is the link below and the general list of duties.

Lets turn around Ohio! Lets turn American Blue!

DUTIES OF A CAPTAIN
• Updating and maintaining a current voter file of the residents in your precinct.
• Identifying and registering potential Democratic voters.
• Encouraging voters to join the Franklin County Democratic Party as dues paying members.
• Identifying opportunities in your precinct to increase the visibility of the Democratic Party and its candidates.
• Periodically distributing information to the residents in your precinct.
• Circulating candidate and issue petitions.
During the election cycles there will be opportunities to actively support the Party's endorsed candidates and issues. You and your team will be key players in the Party's get-out-the-vote activities in your precinct by participating in the following activities.

• Distributing candidate literature and sample ballots.
• Identifying locations for yard signs.
• Increasing the visibility of the Democratic Party and its candidates at community events.
• Calling registered Democrats and other supporters to remind them to vote. Identifying those who need assistance in getting to the polls.
