Wow, you don't have to read between the lines that hard to get Chris Celeste's thoughts on the Democratic Senate race do you?
From the Columbus Dispatch:
Celeste said today he does not like the way the Democratic battle for the seat is shaping up between Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher and Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.
"I don't want to be involved in a destructive exercise," Celeste said, referring to the heavy emphasis on fundraising and arm-twisting for endorsements.
"This race started so early and I think it might be less change-oriented than I had hoped."
Celeste said that Gov. Ted Strickland, who has endorsed Fisher, could be weakened in his own re-election bid next year if Brunner beats Fisher for the nomination. "The party, because of the governor's early support, is going to be in a difficult position to remain neutral," Celeste said.
He said he is not ready to endorse a candidate now, but will do so before the primary. Even so, Celeste had nice things to say about Brunner's campaign.
"I think Jennifer actually has an opportunity to be a candidate who represents real change, given that she now finds herself lined up against the party," Celeste said, adding that he sees Brunner "doing things in a more grassroots fashion and I'm not interested in undercutting that."
