Senators Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo) and Mark Wagoner (R-Ottawa Hills) announced the introduction of a bipartisan bicycling safety bill today, on the west lawn of the Statehouse.
The legislation will define a safe lateral passing distance of three feet when a motor vehicle passes a bicycle or other non-motorized vehicle.
The Ohio Bicycle Federation (OBF) President, Chuck Smith, also spoke in support of the legislation.
Both Senator Fedor and Senator Wagoner took part in a 160 mile bike ride from Toledo to the Ohio Statehouse earlier this year.
The three-foot passing clearance requirement was one of several OBF proposals which were given to Senators Fedor and Wagoner during the May ride from Toledo to Columbus.
