Washington, D.C. – Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH) has been appointed by House Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson to co-chair the Congressional Task Force on Job Creation. The task force will focus on bringing new and innovative ideas to the table that will create jobs and restore the promise of the middle class. The House is working to pass a job-creation package before the end of the year. Rep. Sutton will guide the task force toward crafting innovative ways to strengthen our economy and put Americans back to work. “American families are suffering. Far too many have lost their jobs and many more are left worrying about what tomorrow will bring. With the national unemployment rate at 10.2% and Ohio’s unemployment rate at 10.1%, now is the time for bold efforts to create jobs and rebuild our economy so that it will work for and with America’s workers and businesses. I have heard it said that “we are in a jobless recovery”. But I assert that there is no such thing. There cannot be a meaningful “recovery” until and unless my constituents have access to jobs that will enable them to provide for themselves and their families,” said Rep. Sutton.
“By bringing this task force together we will be sure that voices from across our country are heard as we work to create jobs and grow the economy. Congresswoman Sutton and Congressman Hastings have shown exemplary leadership on this issue and will do a great job shepherding this group forward. The task force will help us bring the best ideas from our Caucus forward as we shape our agenda. Momentum is building within the Democratic Caucus toward new job creation legislation that helps ensure our recovery is not a jobless recovery,” said Congressman Larson.
Other members of the working group include Reps. Alcee Hastings (FL-23) (Vice-Chair), Congs. Phil Hare (IL-17), Paul Tonko (NY-21), David Loebsack (IA-02), Lloyd Doggett (TX-25), John Sarbanes (MD – 03), Gary Peters (MI-09), Mazie Hirono (HI-02), Judy Chu (CA – 32), Bill Pascrell (NJ-08), Allyson Schwartz (PA-13), Adam Smith (WA-09), Mike Thompson (CA-01), Rick Larsen (WA-02), Ben Ray Lujan (NM-03), Mark Schauer (MI-07), Linda Sanchez (CA-39), Anna Eshoo (CA-14) and more are expected to join.
