Sen. Brown: GOP Protecting Ebenezer Scrooge

Ohio Dem. Says Republicans Obstruct Health Care Reform By Defending Practices of Insurance Companies

If we do nothing to reform health care, said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, on CBS' "Face the Nation" this morning, "insurance premiums are going to double. I'm amazed as I hear Republican after Republican take to the Senate floor and defend the insurance companies, practices worthy of Ebenezer Scrooge. The way they'd have it, is that the insurance companies would cancel Tiny Tim for a pre-existing condition."

Brown, who supported the public option which was jettisoned from the health care proposal, said he was disappointed in the legislation - "I think it could be a better bill" - but heralded the bill's insurance reform (such as ending exclusions for pre-existing conditions), end of gender discrimination in premiums, strengthening Medicare, and tax breaks for small businesses that ensure their employees.

"Most companies in Cincinnati and Cleveland and Columbus that I talk to want to insure their employees; they can't afford it," Brown said. "If they have 20 employees and one of them gets cancer, it makes their premiums unaffordable. This bill moves absolutely in the right direction."

Brown's Folley
By lockman1 Dec 21st 2009 at 10:46 pm EST (Updated Dec 21st 2009 at 10:46 pm EST)
Senator Brown is one Socialist who needs to be defeated in 2012.
This idiot is great at throwing bombs, and even better at destroying our liberty!
This health care bill which noone will read, will probably pass unfortunately. We definitely need to lower the cost of insurance, and make it available to those who are too poor to have it. But we don't need socialized medicine, or 90% of what the socialists are trying to force down our throats!
There are many things that can be done incrementally, with thorough public debate, to solve these problems. But there is no excuse for back room deals, bribes and total secrecy!
And what's the rush? This bill won't go into effect until 2014 anyway. Why is there no time for public disclosure and debate? Easy! If that were to take place, noone would want what's coming.
Higher taxes in a recession?! Higher premiums!? I thought part of the reason for reform was to make insurance more affordable! Let's face it; Obama and his leftist wackos in Congress are lying to us!!

Tell that to the 390 Ohioans who lose their health insurance every day and the 1,000 Americans who die every week because they don't have health insurance. While you're at it, abolish Medicare because it's nothing but Socialized Medicine.
