Latest Quinnipiac Poll Reveals Ohio Is Turning Blue In The 2008 Campaign
Ohio, the key state in the 2004 presidential election, is turning blue in the 2008 campaign, with Democratic candidates winning 11 of 12 matchups with Republican contenders, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front-runner has opened a 47 - 40 percent lead over her GOP counterpart, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, up from a 43 - 43 percent tie in an August 8 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.

"The only one of the dozen match ups between the leading candidates on both sides of the aisle in which a Republican came out ahead was Sen. McCain who held a statistically insignificant 42 - 41 percent lead over Sen. Obama.

"We have been seeing a gradual shift toward the Democrats in Ohio this year, but these numbers show that the tide has turned in this traditionally Republican-leaning state. Of course we have 14 months until the election, but at this point the Republicans are playing catch-up in a state they would be very hard pressed to win the White House without."

Sen. Clinton's current 29-point lead in the Democratic field represents a slight increase from the 25-point edge she held in August, the last time Quinnipiac University surveyed Ohio. Giuliani, on the other hand, has seen his numbers dwindle in the Buckeye state. In a March 7 Quinnipiac poll, he was getting 35 percent from Ohio Republicans.

Who is this "we"?

Democrats tried to run John Kerry last time, and his campaign was characterized as "Vote for me: I'm not George Bush." Being the "anti-candidate" is only enough to get you 51%, if that. Republicans (and many Democrats) were asking, "But what are Kerry's IDEAS?"

Democrats need to pretty much ignore the Republicans. Democrats need to say:

"Our agenda is:

1) To find a safe way to exit Iraq,
2) To mend fences with the rest of the world,
3) To provide health insurance for all,
4) To fix trade agreements to help the US worker,
5) To repair and improve the US infrastructure,
6) To finally bring real relief to New Orleans,
7) To return to an education system which is cost-effective and which makes sense,
8) And to eliminate our dependence on foreign sources of energy, and to invest in alternative fuels."

These eight items should be hammered home every time a Democrat speaks. You know what the Republicans will say is the way to fix any and all of the above eight items? "Tax cuts are the answer to all our problems." The thing is, "tax cuts" are the answer to all the Republicans' corporate buddies problems ... not the answer to America's problems.

If Democrats need to say ANYTHING about Republicans, here it is:

"Republicans want to keep us in a perpetual war, controlled by fear, so they can funnel our tax dollars to their rich corporate cronies, who will kick back payments to the money-loving Republicans. Make no mistake: continuing to keep Republicans in power will make you poorer, will kill or cripple your family, and will ruin America."

Woo Hoo! Russ on fire today!

I agree with your comments!
By "we" I mean us...

...wishy-washy Ohio voters who don't care for "Us v. Them" politics. My personal experience with both parties is that they only communicate with you when they want money. Then they waste that money on stupid tv spots.

Your agenda items are good...perhaps if the dems did a better job of communicating their goals I could feel more party loyalty.

Agreed...Kerry was a lousy candidate.

Why Hillary?

She's certainly capable and qualified for the job BUT she brings so much baggage even though she's a centrist-triangulating candidate. She will have a hard time getting Republicans and Independents to come over because the Clintons are divisive figures with huge track records and people have already formed opinions.

I won't be nearly as energized to get involved if she is the Nominee and I suspect that she won't provide long coattails down ticket.

I'm glad polling in Iowa and New Hampshire where the candidates are actually talking to voters and not just big donators is much different with Edwards and even Obama ahead of Clinton.

Two reasons:
1. she's qualified
2. she has a uterus
