Voinovich Double Talk Express Tour Kicks-Off Tuesday!

OHIO – The Iraq Summer/AAEI program kicks off a tour of Ohio Tuesday featuring a mobile billboard voted on by over 800 Ohioans in 24 hours. Stops on the tour Tuesday include Elyria, downtown Cleveland, Painesville and Toledo.

“The winning entry seems to summarize the experience of our field workers during the Iraq Summer campaign,” said Matt Hurm, field director of the Ohio program. Iraq Summer has seven people on the ground in Ohio since June working toward ending escalation in Iraq by targeting Senator Voinovich, Rep. Steve LaTourette, Rep. Jean Schmidt and Rep. Deborah Pryce who announced this week she would not seek re-election.

“A lot has been written about Senator Voinovich’s waffling on the war and a ProgressOhio member had suggested a contest,” said Brian Rothenberg, Executive Director of ProgressOhio. “Obviously there was tremendous response on-line.”

Tracy Meisky of Columbus, Ohio won the contest. “Senator Voinovich makes himself a few headlines by talking down the war but then turns his back on the families of American troops who thought he was going to go to bat for them, by voting to let the madness continue, unchallenged and unchecked. Then he puts on a nice clean shirt and goes out to dinner while the soldiers put on combat gear and go out on patrol.

It's pretty clear Mr. Voinovich was hoping he could make political hay by just sounding tough on the war without actually having to be tough. ,” said Meisky.

The Mobile Billboard Tour goes on to Akron, Mansfield, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Lima and Toledo. The event builds toward three Take A Stand events on August 28 in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.
