Post from Dave Harding's Blog:
The McCain Health Care Plan

Yesterday, the Dallas Morning News reported new details of the McCain health care plan.

Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain’s health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. (Hospital emergency rooms by law cannot turn away a patient in need of immediate care.)

“So I have a solution. And it will cost not one thin dime,” Mr. Goodman said. “The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American – even illegal aliens – as uninsured…”

“So, there you have it. Voila! Problem solved.”

What?

This is an insult to American citizens. There is a major difference between going to the ER for valid medical concerns and using the ER as your family doctor.

It is obviousl that the authors of this "plan" are sincerely stupid. This is not health care as people really need it.

If this is the best that McCain can propose, I think we should pull his healthcare benefits as a member of Congres and give them to someone who really needs the coverage.

The coat hanger plan
By OHliz Aug 29th 2008 at 6:16 am EDT (Updated Aug 29th 2008 at 6:16 am EDT)
Two years ago I covered some wire coat hangers in red paper and wrote "Ken Blackwell's health care plan for Ohio women" on them. I carried them around Ohio stadium before a couple of Buckeye games. I got a very positive response for my one-woman protest, especially from young men and older women. The best part was seeing the fear in the eyes of some old Republican guys. They couldn't say anything because a plane carrying a bloody fetus picture was flying overhead.

I was thinking of reviving this idea with McCain health-care hangers. It's a very powerful symbol.
