ProgressOhio has authored a 3 page memorandum [pdf, doc] outlining evidence that federal firearms laws are being violated at a publicly owned venue, the Sharonville Convention Center. The convention center is receiving nearly $70 million in tax payer funds, yet appears to be a center of illegal gun trafficking.
The memo is being distributed to the Sharonville Mayor's Office, Sharonville City Council, Sharonville Police Department, Hamilton County Commissioners, Ohio Attorney General and the US Attorneys' Office Southern District of Ohio.
It outlines evidence obtained by ProgressOhio and the New York City Mayor's office that indicates private sellers at the Bill Goodman's Gun & Knife Show, regularly hosted at the Sharonville Convention Center, are breaking the law.
It recommends that background checks be mandatory for all firearm sales at gun shows. Currently, almost anyone without a federal firearms license can rent a booth at a gun show and sell guns without performing basic background checks and record keeping. Mandatory checks are supported by 85% of non-NRA gun owners and 69% of NRA members and are already the law in seven states.
