A newfound GOP emphasis on residency laws might come back to bite one of their own, yet again.
When it comes time to pay taxes, Jon Husted and his spouse live in Columbus.
Property records attached from Franklin County Auditor Joseph R. Testa indicate that this is the couple’s permanent place of residence as they take the 2.5% homestead tax reduction. As you may know, the Ohio Revised Code requires that the 2.5% homestead reduction requires you to own and occupy your home as your principal place of residence. A homeowner and spouse are entitled to this homestead tax reduction on only one home in Ohio.
When it comes time to vote and run for office, Husted claims he lives at this Kettering address:
While he won't say how much time he spends in Kettering, his modest ranch-style house had tightly-drawn blinds and a six-week-old stack of newspapers next to the front door on a recent summer day. Cobwebs were beginning to creep over a front picture window.
The Dayton Daily News already did a thorough investigation into the matter, but this is the first formal complaint to be filed with the Montgomery County Board of Elections.
The DDN investigation also nails him for taking the homestead deduction on multiple properties and not even knowing the name of the street he supposedly lives on.

Remember when he and Kevin DeWine formed a non-profit to get them elected to higher office?
It wasn't a real non-profit. It was a fake one, so it should have paid taxes -- just like Husted should have paid full property taxes on two of his three homes.
He and the little wife took the property tax break reserved for one's principle residence on three houses, when they are only eligible for one.
I agree that the Dayton Daily did a nice job nailing all of that down. Husted should at least payback the property taxes.
