So we've been beating the drums in The War on Terror for 6-7 years now. Presumably we've fought many battles with Terror, but have yet to defeat it. Sneaky bastard.
In 1964 President Johnson coined the term "War on Poverty." In 1972, Nixon spun The War on Drugs. (I wish he'd have been more specific.) The War on Drugs seems to have fizzled somewhat since then. Factions on both sides were mollified by the Prozac Accords of 1989, I suspect.
I'm in favor of so many more government-sponsored wars: The War on Water & Air Pollution (we'll need Canada and Mexico as allies to fight this one); The War on Rude, Thoughtless Behavior & Bigotry; The War on Domestic Violence & Child Abuse; The War on Limited Access to Quality Healthcare; The War on Tooth Decay (OK, maybe just a skirmish would do).
Truth is, I'd like to do battle with a real enemy, not an abstraction. How about a War on War?
