J. Kenneth Blackwell invited to U.S. House to discuss Ohio's 2004 General Election

House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) have invited Ohio's controversial former Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell (R) for a chat about voting irregularities in the 2004 election. The hearing, which "will explore the current state of voting rights and the allocation of resources to end voter suppression and voter fraud," is scheduled for February 8th. Conyers and Nadler appear to be hoping that Blackwell's past success in suppressing voter turnout will be very informative.

Wonder if a subpoena will follow if this "request" is turned down.

...and the phrase is not "voter fraud", which is a bogeyman created by Republicans to scare people into thinking "Mickey Mouse" is voting thousands of times. No, the phrase is "vote fraud", as in "Election Day has been changed to Wednesday", or "If you have a parking ticket, then you will not be allowed to vote, so don't even bother going to the polling place".

It wouldn't surprise me if....

....Bush nominated Blackwell to be ambassador to Tahiti as a reward. Maybe even a Congressional Medal of Honor like Rumsfeld, Tenet and Bremer got.

You'd think Blackwell would be sour about using up all his political capital getting Bush elected and now holding an empty bag. Both Blackwell and Katherine Harris in Florida got clobbered in statewide elections once voters realized what they did.

The gag reflex seems to kick in with a lot of us liberal females...Here's what Robert Creamer, speaker at Roots Camp & author of Listen to Your Mother: Stand Up Straight: How Progressives Can Win says about Blackwell:

"Ohio is a particularly good example [of Democratic gains in 2006]. The Democratic wave swept out the Republican Governor, a U.S. Senator and a Republican Congressman. Potentially more importantly, Republicans in Ohio no longer control the state's electoral apparatus since the Republican Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, who helped manipulate the results of the decisive 2004 Ohio Presidential vote, was replaced by a Democrat. Blackwell was also trounced in his bid for the Governor's mansion."

Also, very good point, Russ....It's not "voter fraud" and we should scold anyone who refers to it that way.

Thanks. Actually, a better term, which summarizes my point, is "election fraud".

I'd especially like to know more about any incidents in which Republican Presiding Poll Judges were "derelict in their duties" and allowed long lines to form in Democratic-majority precincts. Did the Presiding Judges do everything in their power to make sure that everyone had a chance to vote????
