Post from OHliz's blog:
5 Reasons to fear for Ohio's future
1. We have only Indiana to protect us from Rod Blagojevich.

2. In the absence of John Demjanjak and the motorized bar stool DUI case, reporters at The USA Today will be pressuring us to fill their Ohio news box with goofy items.

3. A good chunk of Columbus' tourism business is invested in The Governator. Will he always be back?

4. In the future, out kids' education will be funded by Blackjack - Strickland Rules.

5. Two buses crash at the Crash-A-Rama.... And people are surprised!

#6 Kasich's No Tax Society = No Quality of Life
By Nation Of Gandhis May 26th 2009 at 11:51 am EDT (Updated May 26th 2009 at 11:51 am EDT)
Kasich (candidate for Governor 2010?) has offered removing the Ohio Statewide tax.

How do you propose having any kind of civilized realistic discussion with out some republicans/democrats who have a SLIGHTLY socialist agenda?

Anti-social is obviously not a possibility. We ALL need to get along in a society that can afford to help those of lesser means.

Privatize the wealth, socialize the loss. Where will that lead? That is where we have been and need to evolve out of.

Nation, I'm sure you accidentally posted this here, which is cool.

I appreciate what Fitrakis does and socialistic theory -- but it is just a theory. No country has achieved the socialist ideal, let alone actual Communism. It didn't work out for the USSR, and China, North Korea or Cuba are not places I would want to live.

Democratic Socialism would be a cumbersome system. A centrally planned economy does not work efficiently. You can't guarantee jobs, but I don't know why we can't have a Canadian-like health care system within a Capitalist framework.

I loosely define this socialism but stand for the individual, hence a more trully compassionate society and honest one to boot.

We are generally not far from this ideal if you would dump the voices of the radical right. And make sure all the corporations pay the full cost of capitalizing on OUR society instead of running away with the profits so the working stiff has to bust his/her hump a little more.

We have strayed far from the one income family. If that is socialistic then so be it.
Solid

Agreed...we have to free ourselves of labels and just be compassionate individuals.

democratic socialism works

>>>I appreciate what Fitrakis does and socialistic theory -- but it is just a theory. No country has achieved the socialist ideal, let alone actual Communism.

I agree that Communism fails in groups of 30 people or more. But OHLiz you are wrong about democratic socialism just being a theory. Democratic socialism has done quite well in many countries. Norway's economy is flourishing--it's a d.s. state. Denmark has the happiest people in the world under d.s.

I would define communism as the government controlling the means of production including manufactured goods whereas socialism is where manufacturing is privitized but many things are part of the 'commons' such as education, health insurance, roads, libraries, police and fire, social security, & medicare. The U.S. has a lot more socialism than many people like to admit.

Libertarianism is the economic model that is just a utopian theory although Somalia is currently a mixture of libertarianism/anarchy.

Can you name a country where libertarianism has worked?

The main reason to fear for Ohio
By Doug May 27th 2009 at 12:10 pm EDT (Updated May 27th 2009 at 12:10 pm EDT)
'Free trade' is code for American workers competing with people making slave wages in places such as China and Vietnam where $1.50/hr. is a decent wage.

General Motors and other many other companies are outsourcing good paying jobs. The companies are just playing by the rules that we now have.

Very few Americans are going to be able to afford consumer goods when all these jobs are gone.

We need to bring back Fair Trade and tariffs and protect our labor force.
