My Story: Basically, I think I've become a progressive activist because of a broken heart --- or, OK, a bleeding heart. (If one's heart can't bleed, something's dead wrong, isn't it?) ___________ I'm disabled, and the combination of what decades of health trouble can do to you, plus economic anxiety, plus seeing your country turn steadily into a neofascist torture empire ---- well, let's just say it can break your heart. Maybe that's the sane reponse to a country gone insane.
_____________ So my way of dealing with the anger and frustration and feelings of helplessness is to get involved. BEing politically/socially active as much as I'm able helps turn those dark things into something positive. (Have you noticed that politically-aware people who don't get out of their homes and get involved seem to sit in front of their computers or TV sets and yell a lot? I've been there!)
____________ So let's do something positive and make some things change.
____________ By the way, though it's not listed in the "issues" section of the profile page, media reform is one of my top priorities. LEt me know if you feel the same. I want to do some media activism locally. In the short term, possibly just a letter-writing campaign. Long term, maybe an FCC license challenge of one of these awful local broadcasters. If you're interested in media reform, contact me!
