V for Very-Vigilant
"Remember, remember the Eleventh of September, The government's treasonous plot. I know no reason that government treason, should ever be forgot! "Good evening, London. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine- the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, thereby those important events of the past usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, a celebration of a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed the Old Bailey, to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you then I would suggest you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot."

Protesting what? The North American Union. Never heard of the NAU? That's exactly how they like it...

From the John Birch Society:
Thanks to the now-infamous North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexican truckers will soon be allowed to travel within the United States free of any security checkpoints at our nation's border.

Historically, truckers from Mexico were allowed to cross into the United States, but were required to unload their cargo within 20-miles of crossing the U.S./Mexican border. President Bush has since launched a new pilot program that would allow Mexican truckers to travel freely on U.S. highways and interstates, a move that would greatly undermine the security of the United States.

Aside from the obvious security threat that would be posed by an unregulated flow of cross-border traffic, American truckers are concerned with job security. Mexican truckers are not restricted with the same regulations that American truckers are required to abide by. Therefore, American jobs would be threatened by Mexican truckers who would be willing to work for a much lower wage. Frosty Wooldridge, a trucker advocate from Colorado, is greatly concerned for his job. Wooldridge said in a public statement, "if this pilot program goes through, you'll see the disappearance of American trucking jobs."   Read More »

"It's impossible to make sense of such violence and suffering. Those whose lives were taken did nothing to deserve their fate. They were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

… In times like this, we can find comfort in the grace and guidance of a loving God. As the Scriptures tells us, don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

- George W. Bush

If only George would apply those words to everyone, in all contexts.
If only George was actually capable of feeling sympathy and compassion.
If only George could overcome his own evil.
If only our 3,691 murdered soldiers and hundreds of thousands of murdered Iraqi civilians got such attention.

Shouldn't our flags be perpetually flying at half-mast and upside-down?
I feel like the announcement of the House passing the $120 BILLION Supplemental Iraq War funding bill, Link, was hardly discussed. This really surprised me given the number of people that must read this site and have opinions about Iraq.

I think it's an important topic because, in addition to the obvious reasons, it illustrates an obvious divide among democrats (progressives/libertarians/whatever.) There are those of us, myself included, who refuse to settle for anything less than an IMMEDIATE withdrawal of ALL troops, and those who applaud the passage of last week's bill because it's "better than nothing."

My own sentiment is summed up by Congressman Ron Paul's address to the House, Link.

"As we bleed financially, our men and women in Iraq die needlessly while the injured swell Walter Reed Hospital. Our government systematically undermines the Constitution and the liberties it is supposed to protect, for which it has claimed our soldiers are dying in faraway places.

Only with the complicity of Congress have we become a Nation of preemptive war, secret military tribunals, torture, rejection of habeas corpus, warrantless searches, undue government secrecy, extraordinary renditions, and uncontrollable spying on the American people.

The greatest danger we face is ourselves, what we are doing in the name of providing security for a people made fearful by distortions of facts. Fighting over there has nothing to do with preserving freedoms here at home. More likely, the opposite is true."

- Ron Paul

What do you all think about this?
On March 23rd, 1775 Patrick Henry famously declared:
"Give me liberty, or give me death!"

Now, Pop Quiz!

  1. "With liberty and justice for all" right? What's the actual definition of liberty?
  2. How do Patriot Acts I & II affect our civil liberties?
  3. Is it worth giving up our liberties in exchange for supposed security?

I have a newfound admiration for Albert Einstein, thanks to a book I'm currently reading called Rebel Lives. His political and social justice involvements seem to be completely overlooked by all the telling of his scientific accomplishments. Think about it, when you learned about him in school, did they ever say anything about his work against McCarthyism or his fight for world peace?

Seems we still have much to learn (after how many years??):

"Large parts of the world are faced with starvation, while others are living in abundance. The nations were promised liberation and justice, but we have witnessed and are witnessing, even now, the sad spectacle of liberating armies firing into populations who want their independence and social equality, and supporting in those countries by force of arms, such parties and personalities as appear to be most suited to serve vested interests. Territorial questions and arguments of power, obsolete though they are, still prevail over the essential demands of common welfare and justice."

To highlight his insight beyond the scope of science, simply as a fellow man, I'm choosing to feature one of his essays (shortened version) written in 1931, enjoy.

The World As I See It
By Albert Einstein

How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he sometimes thinks he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people -- first of all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness is wholly dependent, and then for the many, unknown to us, to whose destinies we are bound by the ties of sympathy. A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving…

I have never looked upon ease and happiness as ends in themselves -- this critical basis I call the ideal of a pigsty. The ideals that have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. Without the sense of kinship with men of like mind, without the occupation with the objective world, the eternally unattainable in the field of art and scientific endeavors, life would have seemed empty to me. The trite objects of human efforts -- possessions, outward success, luxury -- have always seemed to me contemptible.   Read More »
Once you start looking critically at mainstream media, it becomes hard to go back to being a passive reader/viewer/listener. Today's Columbus Dispatch is a perfect example.

On the front page towards the bottom you will see an article titled "Ohio's Springfield to Homer: 'Pick me!' - Cities of same name vie for movie premiere"

You may think nothing of it, although it'd be nice if you thought "that's a front-page worthy story? Is that all that's going on in the world right now?"

Next we'll flip to the last page of the main section, A10. Along with a large ad for some great mattress deals you'll see an article titled "Hearings start for Guantanamo detainees."   Read More »
On page A9 of today's paper, there's an opinion article lovingly titled "Nutty 9/11 flick gains following in the West."

Gwynne Dyer, a UK journalist, basically tries to discredit the entire 9/11 Truth Movement based on the theories proposed in Loose Change. One source. Don't you learn about the importance of using primary, secondary, and multiple sources in journalism school?

"…the argument is pure paranoid fantasy, and it is rotting people's brains."

Oh, here I thought I just had a caffeine headache.

It's pretty hilarious actually. I think it's safe to say that not many of us in the movement believe every idea proposed by Dylan Avery. We all agree it's one of the more extreme films in the 9/11 Truth world, but it's also that extremism that has gotten us this far. It was Loose Change that I watched 3 years ago that got the gears going in my head. The gears that cranked open my eyes.

Aside from only using one source to come to his conclusion, Dyer also does not address the scientific arguments against the official 9/11 story, the ones that are far easier to understand than the political underpinnings. The fact that the buildings fell at near-freefall speed in the exact manner of a controlled demolition. The fact that 40 STEEL support columns magically disappeared. The fact that no steel-framed skyscraper has ever collapsed from fire, not before or after 9/11. The fact that there is NO PLANE to be found at the Pentagon "crash" site. The fact that even if there was a plane, the hole in the Pentagon was TINY and a 757 would never have fit. The list goes on. He did not research anything. He just says "I don't believe that happened." WOW what a smashing argument! Forget all that stuff I said about physics and science, what was I thinking?!   Read More »
We all know how important the media's role is for the advancement of the 9/11 Truth movement (as well as most progressive movements.) We know that their failure in doing their job is largely responsible for the cluelessness that plagues our fellow citizens. While advances in and increased accessibility to technology have enabled US/WE/THE PEOPLE to become the media, it is still hugely important to continue to hold mainstream media accountable to the responsibilities entrusted in them.

For this reason, the FCC Commissioners' visit to Columbus is a very special opportunity that I hope some of you can take advantage of. It's been promoted on-air on WCBE (NPR) like crazy so there should be a great turnout. If you're not very familiar with the FCC, I recommend this page: Link
