I saw the story about the Butler County budget in the Cincinnati Enquirer.
I saw the story about Section 8 housing coming to Butler County on the web site of WCPO. These 2 stories are so very interesting when read together.

Butler budget group: List essentials

By Amber Ellis • aellis@enquirer.com • September 17, 2009

The latest suggestion from a new Butler County budget group involves creating a list to separate the essential and non-essential services the county provides.

Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds, a member of the group, said the distinction is needed to understand what the county has to provide and what should be eliminated as department heads brace for more cuts. He asked commissioners to consider the idea during their Thursday morning meeting.

"It goes back to needs and wants," Commission President Don Dixon, also a member of the budget committee, said.

The board did not take any action on the recommendation. Instead, they put it under review much the same way they did earlier suggestions made by the group of elected officials and financial experts looking to help solve the county's budget woes.

Earlier ideas include forming a separate fund for debt payments, creating a draft budget and asking commissioners to put updates about the group's progress on the county's Web site.

The group formed this summer after a round of mid-year budget cuts, dozens of layoffs and other reductions.

In all, county officials trimmed more than $8 million and borrowed $5 million from cash reserves to balance this year's $91 million general fund budget.

The county finance team is still crunching numbers, but if revenue continues to drop, another $4 million to $9 million will need to be trimmed next year.

It is unclear what cuts will be made and how those will impact services.

Saturday,October 3 will be the date for anyone wishing to get on the waiting list for Butler Metropolitan Section 8 housing.

It's been five years since the waiting list was last opened back in 2004. Over 2,300 applications by low income residents were received in a six hour period back then. It's taken The Housing Authority 5 years to get all but 70 of those 2,300 persons placed with vouchers for housing.

Butler Metropolitan Housing has almost 1,000 persons currently using vouchers for housing. Barbara Brown Section 8 Manager says, "because of the economy the way it is, we expect a lot of new people that have never had assistance before."

Brown estimates as many as 5,000 people may file pre-applications on Saturday.

Besides the Section 8 housing applications, other agencies dealing with low-income based programs such as food stamps, energy assistance, and Legal Aide will be there to tell people about those services.

The application for housing vouchers will be at the New Life Vineyard Church, on Princeton Road in Hamilton. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3. The agency will hand out numbers on a first come first served basis.

Dangerous conditions close Pike Co. mine

Last Update: 7/24 2:31 pm

BELFRY, Ky. (AP) - Workers are pumping millions of gallons of water out of a mine in Pike County after it was shut down for safety reasons.

Federal officials ordered the Freedom Energy Mine at Sidney Coal Company to close last week after a buildup of water in a sealed portion of the underground mine. Officials were worried about the seal failing and water flooding into a work area.

The mine is a subsidiary of Richmond, Va.-based Massey Energy. A Massey spokesman says 28 of the 162 miners employed at Freedom Energy have been inactivated. The rest were moved to other mines while the water is pumped out.

Spokesman Jeff Gillenwater said on Friday that the pumping will continue for another two weeks or more.

He says after that, the mine will be reopened and the inactive workers will return.

U.S. foreclosures jump to record high

My Comments re: ANALYZING THE LIKELIHOOD OF FORCED PROVISIONAL VOTING: SENTENCE BY SENTENCE: KEEPING IN MIND THAT:

WE MUST LEGISLATE THE END OF THE HELP AMERICA VOTE ACT
AND WE MUST LEGISLATE THE END OF THE AMERICAN PATRIOT ACT

Sentence #1 NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. foreclosure activity in April jumped 32 percent from a year ago to a record high, and should mount because temporary freezes on foreclosures ended in March, RealtyTrac said on Wednesday.
#1 = HIGH

Sentence #2 One in every 374 households with mortgages got a foreclosure filing in April, the highest monthly rate since RealtyTrac began tracking it in January 2005.
#2 = HIGH

Sentence #3 Filings were reported on 342,038 properties last month.
#3 = HIGH

Sentence #4 The abundance of distressed properties keeps pressuring home prices, thwarting a housing recovery that is critical to rejuvenating the recessionary U.S. economy.
#4 = PARTIAL CAUSE, HOWEVER - IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A "REGULAR VOTE"

Sentence #5 Most of April's filings, which included notices of default and auctions, were in early stages.
#5 = HIGH

Sentence #6 Bank repossessions, known as real-estate owned or REOs, fell on a monthly and annual basis to the lowest level since March 2008.
#6 = IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A "REGULAR VOTE"

Sentence #7 "This suggests that many lenders and servicers are beginning foreclosure proceedings on delinquent loans that had been delayed by legislative and industry moratoria," RealtyTrac chief executive James J. Saccacio said in a statement.
#7 = HIGH

Sentence #8 A temporary foreclosure freeze by major banks and government-controlled home funding companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac ended before President Barack Obama's massive housing stimulus, unveiled on March 6, could take root.
#8 = HIGH

Sentence #9 "It's likely that we'll see a corresponding spike in REOs as these loans move through the foreclosure process over the next few months," Saccacio said.
#9 = HIGH

Sentence # 10 Foreclosure activity rose less than 1 percent in April from March to post the second straight monthly record.
#10 = HIGH - AND IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A "REGULAR VOTE"

Sentence #11 A dip would have been more typical following the March jump, but the moratoria caused artificial delays, RealtyTrac said.
#11 = HIGH - AND IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A "REGULAR VOTE"

Sentence #12 "It looks like the dam burst in March and continued in April," Rick Sharga, senior vice president at RealtyTrac in Irvine, California, said in an interview.
#12 = HIGH

Sentence #13 Unemployment that is at its highest rate in more than a quarter century has left many borrowers drowning in debt even as new federal housing relief starts to trickle in.
#13 = PARTIAL CAUSE, HOWEVER - IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

Sentence #14 Fear of losing a job is also draining consumer confidence and the willingness to commit to such a large purchase.
#14 = PARTIAL CUASE, HOWEVER - IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

Sentence #15 Still, housing affordability is at a record high and the deeply discounted foreclosure market accounts for more than half of home sales activity.
#15 = PARTIAL CAUSE, HOWEVER - IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

Sentence #16 Home prices have tumbled more than 30 percent from their 2006 peaks, based on Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller indexes.
#16 = PARTIAL CAUSE , HOWEVER - IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERRYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

Sentence #17 Also luring first-time home buyers are new federal tax credits and mortgage rates at generational lows.
#17 = PARTIAL CAUSE, HOWEVER - IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

Sentence #18 Fixed 30-year mortgage rates averaged 4.81 percent in April, down from 5.92 percent a year earlier, Freddie Mac said.
#18 = IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

Sentence #19 RealtyTrac expects at least three or four months of high foreclosure activity before the wave ebbs, noting a lag of up to six months between unemployment and foreclosure.
#19 = HIGH

Sentence #20 "If we continue to see buying activity increase, if the jobs market continues to improve and if the price depreciation slows down we could start to see a pretty significant effect on foreclosure levels before the end of the year," said Sharga.
#20 = IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

Sentence #21 "But those are three pretty big ifs."
#21 = IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

RECOVERY WILL BE "VERY LOCALIZED"

Sentence #22 States where sales and prices soared most during the five-year housing boom earlier this decade remained the hardest hit.
#22 = HIGH

Sentence #23 Nevada was the state with the highest foreclosure rate even though filings fell 18 percent in April from March and bank repossessions dropped 44 percent.
#23 = HIGH

Sentence #24 With one of every 68 households with loans getting a filing, more than five times the national average, total foreclosure activity surged 111 percent from April 2008.
#24 = HIGH

Sentence #25 Florida, like Nevada, suffers from a glut of unsold and often unoccupied properties built on enormous demand from investors looking to flip the units quickly for large profits.
#25 = HIGH

Sentence #26 A 37 percent monthly foreclosure activity jump in April pushed total filings up 75 percent from a year earlier in Florida.

#26 = HIGH

Sentence #27 One in every 135 households with loans there got a filing, driven by a spike in default and auction notices even as bank repossessions fell 7 percent from March.
#27 = HIGH

Sentence #28 California had the third highest state foreclosure activity rate in April after a 10 percent drop from March, with one in every 138 housing units getting a filing.
#28 = HIGH

Sentence #29 Arizona was in fourth place, followed by Idaho, Utah, Georgia, Illinois, Colorado and Ohio.
#29 = HIGH

Sentence #30 The 10 states with the most properties getting filings accounted for more than three-quarters of the national total, RealtyTrac said.
#30 = HIGH

Sentence #31 California had the highest number of filings, followed by Florida, Nevada and Arizona.
#31 = HIGH

Sentence #32 Las Vegas had the highest foreclosure rate among metro areas with populations of at least 200,000 even though filings fell 20 percent in April from March.
#32 = HIGH

Sentence #33 One in every 56 Las Vegas households with loans got a filing in April, almost seven times the national average.
#33 = HIGH

Sentence #34 Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida and Merced, California were in second and third place.
#34 = HIGH

Sentence #35 Considering these severely effected regions, "the recovery is going to be a very localized phenomenon," said Sharga.
#35 = HIGH - AND IRRELEVANT TO THE RIGHT OF EVERYONE TO CAST A REGULAR VOTE

Attention Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner -

As soon as possible, please consider initiating the process of replacing the Chairman of the Hamilton County Ohio BOE, Alex Triantafilou due to his handling of the ridicule of Arlen Specter that he publicly engaged in..

I'm worried about the Civil Rights Obligations of Recovery Act Grantors and Applicants within the context of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

I won't have much confidence in future elections that address efforts to improve the delivery of medical care as well as issues related to The Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 if Alex Triantafilou is permitted to continue serving as the Chairman of the Hamilton County Ohio BOE.

Sincerely,

Jane Schiff

The Specter of Arlen sets off a Cincinnati political tiff
Posted by HowardWilkinson at 4/29/2009 5:20 PM EDT on Cincinnati.com

The defection of Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter to the Democratic Party has Republicans nationwide fuming and declaring "good riddance;" few more so than Hamilton County Republican Party chairman Alex Triantafilou, who raged over the Specter defenction on his blog Wednesday.

It was not so much the words Triantafilou used than the pictures that accompanied them which set off Hamilton County Democratic Party chairman Tim Burke.

What Triantafilou did that set Burke off was pairing an old picture of Specter when he was bald from his chemotherapy with a picture of the hairless Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies. Specter's hair, by the way, has grown back.

Burke fired off a release headlined: "Republican Party Ridicules Cancer Patient."

"It is just that kind of insensitivity to the plight of real people that is causing the Republican Party to lose so many of its previous followers," Burke wrote, noting the photo was taken during Specter's chemotherapy.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Triantafilou said he meant no harm and pooh-poohed Burke's complaint.

"Tim needs to lighten up,'' Triantafilou said. "It was funny. Dr. Evil is a character in my favorite movie. I meant no disrespect to Sen. Specter."

Triantafilou said the photo of Specter he used was the first one that popped up when he did a Google photo search.

Check out the blog posting here.

UPDATE: Wednesday night, Triantafilou took down the photos on his blog and replaced them with the word CENSORED.

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: The "CENSORED" thing came off of Triantafilou's blog last night, replaced by a photo of a grumpy child. Then, Thursday, the whole post on Specter, photos and text, disappeared from the blog. The whole thing, Triantafilou said, "was becoming a distraction."

On May 5, 2009, I received a reply in an emailed pdf document. I'm posting it here by hand typing.

Josh Kimsey, Elections Counsel for Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner,is the author.

Ms. Schiff,

Your message regarding comments made by Alex Triantafilou in a weblog for the Hamilton County Republican Party was referred to my attention. As you are aware, Mr. Triantafilou currently serves as chair of the Hamilton County Republican Party and chair of the Hamilton County Board of Elections. In your message, you asked Secretary of State Brunner to consider replacing Mr. Triantafilou as chair of the Hamilton County Board of Elections.

The Secretary of State possesses the authority under state law to remove or suspend members and employees of the boards of elections. Such removal may be effected "for neglect of duty, malfeasance, misfeasance, or nonfeasance in office, for any willful violation of Title XXXV of the Revised Code, or for any any other good and sufficient cause." R.C. 3501.16. At this time, there does not appear to be a level of factual evidence that would provide the legal justification for removal of Mr. Triantafilou from the Hamilton County Board of Elections.

It seems clear that the weblog upon which Mr. Triantafilou made the comments at issue is sponsored by the Hamilton County Republican Party. Mr. Triantafilou's comments on this weblog appear to be made in his role as chair of that political organization. Absent any evidence that these comments were posted on board of elections time or using board of elections resources, this activity does not appear to violate state election law.

Moreover, members and employees of the boards of elections retain their rights under the Ohio Constitution and United States Constitution to express political opinions. Political speech is a core value protected under Article I, Section 11 of the Ohio Constitution and the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. "The hallmark of the protection of free speech is to allow 'free trade in ideas' - even ideas that the overwhelming majority of people might find distasteful or discomforting." Virginia v.Black, 538 U.S. 343, 358 (2003). Although someone may feel Mr. Triantafilou's comments on a political party web site were hurtful, objectionable, or repugnant, they are likely protected as an exercise of his fundamental right to free speech.
TEA PARTIES:

These might offer opportunities for fund-raising, the Lobby Industry and campaign funding events that seek and attract people across the political spectrum save for the Democrats. Why are suburban Republicans and a variety of other political parties from nearby counties appearing at Cincinnati Tea parties? Former Republican Senator to our U.S. Congress, Steve Chabot spoke at the first Tea Party downtown. Steve Chabot (R) lost his position as a Senator from Ohio in the U.S. Congress in November 2008. Very shortly after the loss, he announced that he's running again. Cincinnati, Ohio elected President Obama and Vice - President Joe Biden. Some areas of Hamilton County favored John McCain and Sarah Palin.

I think that alert progressive financial watchdogs should consider honing their skills to legally pursue the possibility of eliminating the Lobby Industry. I think Americans would be the better for it.

Licking County must pay $400,000 for error
Traffic fines were mistakenly sent into wrong coffers

Licking County will have to pay for more than $400,000 in traffic fines that were misdirected into county coffers from 2004 to 2008.

Licking County Municipal Court Clerk Marcia Phelps says the money was erroneously forwarded to the county instead of the State Highway Patrol, the city of Newark and the local law library, which were supposed to receive the funds after a 2004 change in state law.

A programming error that went undiscovered until after Phelps took office in 2008 is responsible for the misdirection, Phelps said. Under the law, half the fines received from drivers convicted of drunken driving or driving with suspended licenses goes to the patrol. The county gets 10 percent.

Since 2004, however, the clerk's office had been depositing the money into the budgets for the county sheriff and engineer.

Commissioner Tim Bubb said that because the money was misdirected over several years, it may take just as long to pay it back. He said it was not appropriate for the money to be paid out of the county's general fund.

The commissioners recently cut $3 million from the county's budget in response to lower-than-expected sales tax revenue.

"The immediate impact is maybe a road doesn't get paved that would have," Bubb said. He acknowledged, however, while the money was being misdirected, more paving work was done than would have been otherwise possible.

Phelps said the commissioners already have paid $32,713 in misdirected funds for 10 months of 2008, which was caught late last year.

Butler County owes IRS $500K

Butler County may have to pay $500,000 in back taxes for not reporting the use of county-issued cell phones, uniforms and cars as employee benefits.

The Internal Revenue Service has been reviewing county books from 2005 to 2007. They found, according to county officials, approximately $1.5 million in benefits that should have been reflected on employee taxes. The IRS has asked Butler County to pay a third of that amount.

Calling the policy "unfair" and a "money grabber," Commissioner Greg Jolivette said it didn't make sense to take away money from a county in need at a time when the federal government plans to spend billions to create jobs.

"I think it's wrong to go after the taxpayers, especially at a time when everybody's budget is so critical. Our budget is critical. We're laying off people," he said. "They say they want to create and retain jobs, and then they're going to turn around and take this from us?"

The audit's findings are wrapping up just weeks after the county closed a $7 million revenue shortfall, a result of drops in sales tax and other market-based returns. More than 60 people have been laid off since last year.

"Obviously, this couldn't have come at a worse time," said Commission President Don Dixon.

"But we'll have to deal with it because in reality, we should have had a plan in place. We shouldn't be here. ..."

Because of the audit, Dixon said officials are working to a adopt clear, countywide policy on the use of cell phones and other benefits.

Jolivette sent letters to several in Congress, urging them to give the county an exemption on the policy.

If that doesn't happen, Dixon said the county will be forced to pay the back taxes with money from its carryover fund.

Cuts surprise service agencies
Council committee to review funding system

By Jane Prendergast • jprendergast@enquirer.com • April 4, 2009

After some Cincinnati social service agencies that had gotten money for years learned they will get nothing from the city this year, City Council members said they have to figure out what went wrong with the system they put in place.

"It did not work the way it was intended to work," Councilwoman Leslie Ghiz said Friday, referring to the plan council approved unanimously last June.

The system was supposed to make funding decisions more fair and target the city's approximately $2 million to fewer agencies to make a bigger impact, said Councilman Chris Bortz, who pushed for the changes with Vice Mayor David Crowley.

Bortz said it should have been clear that fewer agencies would get money.

Council members will talk about the issue Tuesday at 11 a.m. in a special meeting of the Finance Committee called Friday by Chairwoman Laketa Cole.

"It was clearly council's intention to receive recommendations on the funding, and then take action," she said in a statement. "So far, it looks like we've been cut out of the process."

She decided to have the hearing, the statement said, after being told several agencies that have been funded for years saw their money cut with less than a week's notice.

Among the agencies cut: the YWCA Battered Women's Shelter, FreestoreFoodbank, Bethany House Services and Society of St. Vincent DePaul.

All the agencies that were cut had their funding extended from the end of last year through the end of March.

Charlene Ventura, executive director of the women's shelter, said Thursday she knew the system had been changed, but didn't expect to lose the $141,000 the agency got last year. The shelter has been funded by the city since 1982.

SO Congress must demand & the Justice Dept must appoint a Special Prosecutor with Subpoena Powers & authority to indict all found to have violated Federal Laws, Constitution or Geneva Convention on Torture. The State of Limitations starts to run out in March. Prosecution will stop unnecessary wars & damage to our economy caused by presidential lies & Abuse Of Power. Bush & Cheney confessed that they ordered torture. Sen. Leahy & Rep. John Conyers' "commissions" will be nothing but a white wash and a burial for all time of the true facts.

Phyllis Schlafly Endorses Ken Blackwell for RNC Chairman

January 3, 2009

WASHINGTON, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Eagle Forum President and Republican National Coalition for Life National Chairman Phyllis Schlafly today endorsed the candidacy of Ken Blackwell for chairman of the Republican National Committee.

"Ken Blackwell is a solid social and fiscal conservative who is dedicated to the principles that brought the Republican Party to power in 1980 and can do so again. He has 13 successful campaigns under his belt. He has run for office himself and knows how to win."

"Ken Blackwell was first elected to the Cincinnati City Council and then as Mayor. He was the first African-American to win statewide office when he was elected Ohio State Treasurer. Subsequently, he was twice elected Ohio Secretary of State, later winning the Republican nomination for Governor of Ohio. He has managed and run large state agencies with many employees in a fiscally responsible manner. Ken Blackwell would bring to the office of RNC chairman a level of campaign experience unmatched by any other candidate."

"Ken Blackwell understands the many challenges facing our country both at home and around the world, having served as an undersecretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission."

"His replies to National Committeeman Morton Blackwell's questionnaire were comprehensive and impressive," said Schlafly.

"Ken Blackwell served as vice chairman of the 2008 Platform Committee. He assures us that he fully supports the 2008 Republican National Platform and will work to see its principles implemented in public policy, adding that he is 'very proud of the document we adopted.' We are proud of the Platform and Ken Blackwell's commitment to it, and proud to support his candidacy for RNC chairman."

Phyllis Schlafly has worked on Republican campaigns since 1946 and was a Delegate to eleven Republican National Conventions.

I have been cursing both the Help America Vote Act as well as The American Patriot Act. I appreciate the Divine Intervention that may very well lead to the end of the Help America Vote Act (otherwise known as the Hinder America Vote Act).

I had quite a surprise today while I was reading one of the many Reuters articles about the many sources of our current financial devastation. One of the articles on Bernard Madoff lifted my despair over having to put up with the Help America Vote Act. Here's why: The Help America Vote Act is fed primarily by two very hefty charitable sources: The PEW Charitable Trusts and the JEHT Foundation. Between 1948 and 1979, two sons and daughters of the founder of Sun Oil Company, founder Joseph N. Pew and Mary Anderson Pew established seven charitable trusts. They are one of the financial powerhouses that drive the Help America Vote Act. The other financial powerhouse that drives The Help America Vote Act is the JEHT Foundation. The acronym stands for Justice, Equality, Human dignity and Tolerance. JEHT was conceived in April 2000. It makes grants available for many necessary and unnecessary services. Reuters reported today that JEHT is closing up shop next month. Two JEHT donors - Jeanne Levy - Church and Kenneth Levy - Church, were investors in the Madoff business. Election Advocates and Agencies of all ilk - before you despair that your funding will be cut off - please - consider rejoicing. I shall give my eye teeth to enjoy the demise ot ONE of the laws that turned many voters into second - class citizens. Do remember: Election Advocates and Agencies came into existence in April 2000. I for one, could have done without the rape of my country's intrinsic voting values. Many Election Advocacy groups and Agencies climbed on board for the binge.

P.S. - An unforgettable day for Bob Ney and everyone who jumped on board. I hope you all see this as a blessing. Don't look this gift horse in the face.
Post Election Audit for the November 4, 2008 General Election
The audit will begin on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 9:00am at the Hamilton
County Board of Elections, in the auditorium on the 3rd floor at 824 Broadway,
Cincinnati, Ohio.
I had posted earlier today that Vic Wulsin (D) won the U.S. House of Representatives for the 2nd District. That post was an error. At least, she won Hamilton County.

CINCINNATI - A federal appeals court agreed Wednesday that a lawsuit challenging Ohio's voting system as unfair and marked by problems should be heard in court.

The League of Women Voters brought the action three years ago in the aftermath of the 2004 general election, which brought national criticism of Ohio elections officials while President Bush narrowly carried the state to clinch re-election. The organization wants a court order requiring the secretary of state and governor to put "a fair and competent system" in place.

A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati ruled unanimously that the lawsuit should continue in U.S. district court in Toledo.

The lawsuit cites examples of voters in some counties who were misdirected by poll workers, believe their votes were miscounted or not counted at all, and found broken or not enough voting machines at their polling sites. It also alleges misuse of provisional ballots.

"If true, these allegations could establish that Ohio's voting system deprives its citizens of the right to vote or severely burdens the exercise of that right, depending on where they live," wrote Judge Julia Smith Gibbons.

The panel agreed that the lawsuit raises valid questions about violations of citizens' equal protection and due process rights. The lawsuit doesn't challenge the 2004 results.

The court rejected state efforts to have the case thrown out as moot, noting that the League of Women Voters cites problems in Ohio elections dating back to 1971.

A message seeking comment was left with Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner's office. The state could ask the full appeals court to hear its case for dismissal or seek a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court.

The state has made elections changes since 2004, and voters also replaced a Republican governor and secretary of state with Democrats in the 2006 elections.

But elections have continued to bring complaints. An Ohio congressional seat remains undecided three weeks after this year's election because of challenges to provisional balloting in Franklin County.

A 6th Circuit panel on Tuesday sent that case back to the Ohio Supreme Court for a ruling on how to count thousands of those ballots in the 15th District race between Republican state Sen. Steve Stivers and Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy
As someone who has literally "partied for a living," (in special events) I claim this with absolute authority:

The. Party. Is. Over.

It's time to turn off the music, turn up the lights, present the bill, "gather up your jackets and move to the exits" and if necessary-and it obviously is necessary-call the cops. And yeah, I remember the number. It's 9/11.

The Republicrats need to go home, and don't even get me started about a third party-because what this country really needs is a second one.   Read More »

COLUMBUS (AP) -- Service has been restored at more than 200 motor vehicle bureaus around Ohio after a system for checking federal license information went down for nearly three hours Monday.

From 10:17 a.m. to 1:05 p.m., bureaus in Ohio were unable to make checks necessary to issue commercial driver licenses and state IDs that can serve as identification in voting. A spokesman for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators said the problem was widespread throughout the country.

Ohio Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lindsay Komlanc said it was unclear how many people had been affected the outage, which was attributed to a large fiber-optic cable being cut somewhere in Texas.
