...They are al Qaeda... in... Iraq."

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."
- George W. Bush, May 24, 2005

Mr. Bush defended the "War on Terror" yesterday in South Carolina --- what an enlightening speech! Did you know that al Qaeda is in Iraq now? And they're the ones who attacked us on 9/11? And they're in Iraq?!

Number of times Al Qaeda is mentioned in yesterday's speech: 95.
Number of times Iraq is mentioned: 104.
A little heavier on the Iraq's, yes, but he balances them with 9 mentions of September 11th.

"The facts are that al Qaida terrorists killed Americans on 9/11, they're fighting us in Iraq and across the world, and they are plotting to kill Americans here at home again. Those who justify withdrawing our troops from Iraq by denying the threat of al Qaida in Iraq and its ties to Osama bin Laden ignore the clear consequences of such a retreat. If we were to follow their advice, it would be dangerous for the world -- and disastrous for America. We will defeat al Qaida in Iraq."

Yep.

There has been much "discussion" lately as to where 9/11 Truth fits in with the anti-war movement. Many seem content to maintain the status quo, stonewall 9/11 Truthers [like the Bush Administration stonewalled the official "investigation"], and keep waiting for change to come in the form of a miracle Democratic Congress and successful petition drives. But looking back at my 4th of July post from last year, I see nothing has changed, and I firmly believe "if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got." It's clear the anti-war/peace movement needs something new because the only thing that's changed since last 4th of July is that we've lost 1,049 more U.S. soldiers and who knows how many civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There is much I could say on this ridiculous and illogical argument. But rather than continue this any further, I'd rather revisit the document that created our country 231 years ago, and remind my fellow citizens to use that (along with the Constitution) as our foundation (rather than the lies of 9/11) which will naturally lead us ALL to the peace and liberty we strive for.

"...The truth is hard to come by because most nations are deceived about themselves. Rationalizations and the incessant search for scapegoats are the psychological cataracts that blind us to our sins. But the day has passed for superficial patriotism. He who lives with untruth lives in spiritual slavery." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

If you want to truly honor this 4th of July, I implore you to remember this country's origins and give priority #1 to what started it all...

This Memorial Day, dedicated members of Columbus911Truth.org participated in the Powell Parade, which moved through the main streets of downtown Powell, an upper class suburb north of Columbus.

Let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theoriesThis is a village that donated over three times more to Republicans than Democrats in the 2004 elections. The same Powell that Bush visited a year ago to help with a DeWine fund raiser. And yes, Republican Congressman Pat Tiberi was in the parade as well. Did I mention it's a predominately Republican town??

The highlight of our display was a seven foot tall reproduction of the 9/11 Commission Report, complete with the required holes throughout, some VERY LARGE (e.g. two planes - three buildings = one has to wonder.)   Read More »

It's a long speech, but definitely worth reading. You can also watch it on Google Video (24 minutes.)

This man wants to be President? No wonder the Republican Party is scared $hitless.

"...But let it not be said that we did nothing. Let not those who love the power of the welfare/warfare state label the dissenters of authoritarianism as unpatriotic or uncaring. Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security. Understanding the magnificent rewards of a free society makes us unbashful in its promotion, fully realizing that maximum wealth is created and the greatest chance for peace comes from a society respectful of individual liberty."

From Tuesday's Congressional Record:

Madam Speaker, for some, patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. For others, it means dissent against a government's abuse of the people's rights.

Protesting what? The North American Union. Never heard of the NAU? That's exactly how they like it...

From the John Birch Society:
Thanks to the now-infamous North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexican truckers will soon be allowed to travel within the United States free of any security checkpoints at our nation's border.

Historically, truckers from Mexico were allowed to cross into the United States, but were required to unload their cargo within 20-miles of crossing the U.S./Mexican border. President Bush has since launched a new pilot program that would allow Mexican truckers to travel freely on U.S. highways and interstates, a move that would greatly undermine the security of the United States.

Aside from the obvious security threat that would be posed by an unregulated flow of cross-border traffic, American truckers are concerned with job security. Mexican truckers are not restricted with the same regulations that American truckers are required to abide by. Therefore, American jobs would be threatened by Mexican truckers who would be willing to work for a much lower wage. Frosty Wooldridge, a trucker advocate from Colorado, is greatly concerned for his job. Wooldridge said in a public statement, "if this pilot program goes through, you'll see the disappearance of American trucking jobs."   Read More »
Earth as seen from Voyager I
The Earth, as seen from Voyager 1, 1990
"That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam."

- Carl Sagan

Happy Earth Day, my fellow humans.

Sagan is absolutely right, as huge as our problems are, we are still but a mere speck of dust in this vast universe. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't take care of our precious piece of dust--- it is, after all, the only one we've got.

I hope everyone did at least a little something this weekend to take care of our dying planet, it's the least we can do to make up for the other 364 days we trash the place. We must, every day, combat the endless War on our tortured Terra being waged by the Bush Administration.

Here's what I did, along with Mary Jo Kilroy, fellow members of World Can't Wait, Columbus 9/11 Truth, and many others in Columbus. Thanks to Gen. Bruce for the video.

"It's impossible to make sense of such violence and suffering. Those whose lives were taken did nothing to deserve their fate. They were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

… In times like this, we can find comfort in the grace and guidance of a loving God. As the Scriptures tells us, don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

- George W. Bush

If only George would apply those words to everyone, in all contexts.
If only George was actually capable of feeling sympathy and compassion.
If only George could overcome his own evil.
If only our 3,691 murdered soldiers and hundreds of thousands of murdered Iraqi civilians got such attention.

Shouldn't our flags be perpetually flying at half-mast and upside-down?
I feel like the announcement of the House passing the $120 BILLION Supplemental Iraq War funding bill, Link, was hardly discussed. This really surprised me given the number of people that must read this site and have opinions about Iraq.

I think it's an important topic because, in addition to the obvious reasons, it illustrates an obvious divide among democrats (progressives/libertarians/whatever.) There are those of us, myself included, who refuse to settle for anything less than an IMMEDIATE withdrawal of ALL troops, and those who applaud the passage of last week's bill because it's "better than nothing."

My own sentiment is summed up by Congressman Ron Paul's address to the House, Link.

"As we bleed financially, our men and women in Iraq die needlessly while the injured swell Walter Reed Hospital. Our government systematically undermines the Constitution and the liberties it is supposed to protect, for which it has claimed our soldiers are dying in faraway places.

Only with the complicity of Congress have we become a Nation of preemptive war, secret military tribunals, torture, rejection of habeas corpus, warrantless searches, undue government secrecy, extraordinary renditions, and uncontrollable spying on the American people.

The greatest danger we face is ourselves, what we are doing in the name of providing security for a people made fearful by distortions of facts. Fighting over there has nothing to do with preserving freedoms here at home. More likely, the opposite is true."

- Ron Paul

What do you all think about this?
On March 23rd, 1775 Patrick Henry famously declared:
"Give me liberty, or give me death!"

Now, Pop Quiz!

  1. "With liberty and justice for all" right? What's the actual definition of liberty?
  2. How do Patriot Acts I & II affect our civil liberties?
  3. Is it worth giving up our liberties in exchange for supposed security?

I have a newfound admiration for Albert Einstein, thanks to a book I'm currently reading called Rebel Lives. His political and social justice involvements seem to be completely overlooked by all the telling of his scientific accomplishments. Think about it, when you learned about him in school, did they ever say anything about his work against McCarthyism or his fight for world peace?

Seems we still have much to learn (after how many years??):

"Large parts of the world are faced with starvation, while others are living in abundance. The nations were promised liberation and justice, but we have witnessed and are witnessing, even now, the sad spectacle of liberating armies firing into populations who want their independence and social equality, and supporting in those countries by force of arms, such parties and personalities as appear to be most suited to serve vested interests. Territorial questions and arguments of power, obsolete though they are, still prevail over the essential demands of common welfare and justice."

To highlight his insight beyond the scope of science, simply as a fellow man, I'm choosing to feature one of his essays (shortened version) written in 1931, enjoy.

The World As I See It
By Albert Einstein

How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he sometimes thinks he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people -- first of all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness is wholly dependent, and then for the many, unknown to us, to whose destinies we are bound by the ties of sympathy. A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving…

I have never looked upon ease and happiness as ends in themselves -- this critical basis I call the ideal of a pigsty. The ideals that have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. Without the sense of kinship with men of like mind, without the occupation with the objective world, the eternally unattainable in the field of art and scientific endeavors, life would have seemed empty to me. The trite objects of human efforts -- possessions, outward success, luxury -- have always seemed to me contemptible.   Read More »
Once you start looking critically at mainstream media, it becomes hard to go back to being a passive reader/viewer/listener. Today's Columbus Dispatch is a perfect example.

On the front page towards the bottom you will see an article titled "Ohio's Springfield to Homer: 'Pick me!' - Cities of same name vie for movie premiere"

You may think nothing of it, although it'd be nice if you thought "that's a front-page worthy story? Is that all that's going on in the world right now?"

Next we'll flip to the last page of the main section, A10. Along with a large ad for some great mattress deals you'll see an article titled "Hearings start for Guantanamo detainees."   Read More »
On page A9 of today's paper, there's an opinion article lovingly titled "Nutty 9/11 flick gains following in the West."

Gwynne Dyer, a UK journalist, basically tries to discredit the entire 9/11 Truth Movement based on the theories proposed in Loose Change. One source. Don't you learn about the importance of using primary, secondary, and multiple sources in journalism school?

"…the argument is pure paranoid fantasy, and it is rotting people's brains."

Oh, here I thought I just had a caffeine headache.

It's pretty hilarious actually. I think it's safe to say that not many of us in the movement believe every idea proposed by Dylan Avery. We all agree it's one of the more extreme films in the 9/11 Truth world, but it's also that extremism that has gotten us this far. It was Loose Change that I watched 3 years ago that got the gears going in my head. The gears that cranked open my eyes.

Aside from only using one source to come to his conclusion, Dyer also does not address the scientific arguments against the official 9/11 story, the ones that are far easier to understand than the political underpinnings. The fact that the buildings fell at near-freefall speed in the exact manner of a controlled demolition. The fact that 40 STEEL support columns magically disappeared. The fact that no steel-framed skyscraper has ever collapsed from fire, not before or after 9/11. The fact that there is NO PLANE to be found at the Pentagon "crash" site. The fact that even if there was a plane, the hole in the Pentagon was TINY and a 757 would never have fit. The list goes on. He did not research anything. He just says "I don't believe that happened." WOW what a smashing argument! Forget all that stuff I said about physics and science, what was I thinking?!   Read More »
We all know how important the media's role is for the advancement of the 9/11 Truth movement (as well as most progressive movements.) We know that their failure in doing their job is largely responsible for the cluelessness that plagues our fellow citizens. While advances in and increased accessibility to technology have enabled US/WE/THE PEOPLE to become the media, it is still hugely important to continue to hold mainstream media accountable to the responsibilities entrusted in them.

For this reason, the FCC Commissioners' visit to Columbus is a very special opportunity that I hope some of you can take advantage of. It's been promoted on-air on WCBE (NPR) like crazy so there should be a great turnout. If you're not very familiar with the FCC, I recommend this page: Link

Another year, another "anniversary." Don't know about you but I've had ENOUGH.

Iraq.. Afghanistan.. Iran.. Syria.. the lines are all blurring together. Shall we just hit the big red button and get it over it --- put us out of our misery?

What a good excuse for a party, it may just be the last one we ever have. Sponsored by World Can't Wait Columbus, Columbus 9/11 Truth, and other local peace groups. Music by Cultural Relativity, Ukulele Man, Connie Harris, Victoria Parks, and more. Speakers include Bob Fitrakis and others. (I'll update when more details are available.)   Read More »
God Bless Amerika!HEY AMERIKA!

  • You say you support our troops?

  • You have one of those fancy yellow ribbons on your car?

  • Do you plaster an American flag on everything you possibly can so people know you're an American, dammit?

  • You proud of yourself cause you voted in the last election? Maybe even more proud because you voted for candidates that claimed to be against the war?

  • You waiting for God to Bless the USA?

Well GOOD NEWS! Boy do I have a deal for you, WalMart's got nothing on this. Today you can quit waiting for God to intervene and do something yourself! It's your day to prove you really care, beyond mere materialistic expressions. Today you get to SPEAK UP and hold your representatives accountable. You're stuck in the snow anyway, what else do you really have to do?

Also, here's an *excellent* pool of photos, there are already over 2,000 so far and I'm sure some people are still uploading:

FYI: no need to register on the flickr site to see all of my photos, but about half of that second pool of photos you need to be signed in to see, but flickr is the BEST and you should all have an account anyway!! :-)

P.S. This RTE hates my HTML and won't let me format my links properly, hence the generic "link" text, it won't let me change it without messing something else up.

Yo, ProgressOhio. How's about adding the ability to import an RSS feed to populate our blog? This way those with existing blogs won't have to mess with posting new entries multiple times. I know I'm definitely too lazy to do that. Seriously, you don't even want to know how many profiles I have on social networking sites and how many of those have blog options. No time to maintain all those. Facebook has this RSS import feature and it's very convenient. Myspace doesn't have anything to do with convenience when it comes to their blog option, hence it rarely gets touched by me.

Oh-- and of course you'd have to allow the option to delete some imported postings 'cause-- taking my site for example-- not all posts are political. Most are, but not all. So of course you'd only want the relevant ones.

Okay now here's some praise to go with the RSS suggestion: Props for the rich-text editor you're using! I'm impressed it actually works on a Mac. As much as I love hand-coding HTML... a day without a <br> tag is okay every now and then. I always appreciate a good RTE because the one our software at work uses (we do website production and have a CMS) pretty much sucks and fails not only cross-platform but cross-browser. It's PC with IE and that's it. So this one is gorgeous in comparison. I suppose me calling a rich-text editor gorgeous pretty much makes me a geek huh. Oh well, so be it, it's true!

P.S. Maybe this won't happen once I actually publish this entry, or maybe I spoke my praises too soon, but in the Preview it loses the text formatting (bold & italics) and the formatting is also gone if you go back to Edit. And it says the date is March 2nd...
