In response to Secretary Husted's decision to appeal the 6th Circuit ruling, ProgressOhio Executive Director Brian Rothenberg offered the following statement that can be used in whole or in part:
It smacks of partisanship that Secretary Husted continues to use the courts to make it harder for Ohioans to vote.
The secretary wants uniformity, we agree. He should tell all county boards of elections that he will break any tie in favor of voting the last three days. Anything short of that is a continuation of political gamesmanship.
Through these series of appeals, Secretary Husted has made it very clear that he is less concerned with the likelihood of voter confusion and more interested in partisan politics.
Early voting is already underway in Ohio. Secretary Husted's bizarre attempts to eliminate the final three days of voting at this juncture, equates to a referee attempting to control the outcome by altering the rules while the game is in progress."
