ProgressOhio Applauds 6th Circuit Decision As A Step Forward For Voters

In response to today's 6th Circuit court decision, ProgressOhio Executive Director Brian Rothenberg offered the following statement that can be used in whole or in part

:We have always believed that there was unequal protection when Secretary Husted chose to shut down the final weekend of voting and for the second time in a row, the courts have agreed with our belief that all voters should be treated equally.

This is a major step forward for those workers who can't vote during the restrictive voting hours or on Election Day, the teachers, the first responders and the countless numbers of Ohio voters who working during these standard voting hours.

We now call upon the county boards of elections to take advantage of today's ruling and open their polls to all voters during the final three days preceding Election Day.

Now that the early vote period has started, our hope is that Secretary Husted drops any attempts at further appeals, preventing any further confusion for Ohio voters.

Since Secretary Husted's mantra has always been consistency, it is our belief that the Secretary should now order all boards to open their polls during the final weekend of voting.
