From No Frack Ohio:
You may have heard mention in the State of the State about 'terrific plants that will be built by Mark West around Ohio to process gas'... along with those, numerous transmission and compressor plants must be built along the pipelines.
See how this is being done right now by this same company in PA and excerpt below:

"Mark West's most controversial Pennsylvania project to date is construction of the Welling Compressor Station near Washington, Pa. With construction due to be completed in March 2012, it will be one of the largest compressor stations in the US with 14 compressors. Total compression horsepower will more than double what was situated next to Dish, Texas in 2010. "
Calvin Tillman, the Former Mayor of Dish, Texas was recently at ProgressOhio and described the dire situation in Dish:

If you know anything about DISH, TX- you know it is unlivable due to the air quality produced by these plants. [This is not just in issue in Texas, but right here in Ohio too. S]ee video[s] below from OHIO of noise conditions living next a similar [but smaller] station:

[PO NOTE: Smaller compressor stations are already running in Ohio and have ruined the lives of our fellow citizens, who have almost NO PROTECTION under Ohio Law]
A Story from Ohio Citizens is Below:
We live in the rural part of Ohio. Our home sits on a little over 30acres. We've lived here for almost 11yrs now and have enjoyed life here up until recently. ...
We now clearly heard the gas compressor plant. We understood it was part of the business. We just didn't know why they chose to not cover the engines because it was getting pretty noisy and we live right next door. We came home to what sounded like a very large commercial airliner taking off beside our home, continuously and not going anywhere. The vibrations and sound were unbelievable.
By summer the plant was "blowing down" continuously all day long. This would go on once every couple minutes to dozens of times a day, all summer long. Our home now reeked heavily of natural gas when we were down wind and the blow-downs were scaring [our small children] to the point that they would get frightened, cry and run back inside. Watching them too scared to be outside from the recent activity at the plant was too much to bear. My husband spoke again to the guys at the gas plant who also acknowledged that the noise levels were too much with the new turbine but that they had no say and were only doing their job. They said they were also having problems getting on line which would explain the continuous "blow-down's". They said it would be nice to get something done because of working beside it and that they had also been asking for a building. Frustrated, not knowing what to do we kept asking around and were ultimately advised to contact the EPA, PUCO, ODNR and our local courthouse. Well, the courthouse had no idea what to tell us and the ODNR said they didn't handle that side of the gas industry. The EPA sent someone over but never got back to us. We then called the PUCO and were able to speak with a few people who were very nice, but advised they had no jurisdiction either.
On April 7th 2008 a new and louder noise came from more "blow-downs". This new noise started causing everything to vibrate, including our windows and home. The air began rumbling like a thunderstorm. My husband gave it about a week but it didn't stop so he stopped over and asked what happened. The gas guys said that what we are hearing is the pressure picked up and there is a lot more gas in the lines. They said the gas is not leveling off but fluctuating with pressure building on one end more than the other. This caused more noise because the engines only ran at one speed. We noticed that the new turbine is also running so hard it would vibrate the metal parts of the building. It echo's off our home and barn back and forth, through the thick cedar log walls of our home. Trying to ignore it has been hard. We tried everything, even bought many trees and have been planting our fields with everything we can get. Unfortunately, that will take 20yrs and our only benefit will be not being able to see the plant anymore.
By winter, the noise was still up and down, loud and rumbling thru the valley. After several attempts, we were able to get a meeting set up. We showed them the video of the noise problems we were experiencing and spoke about it. The PUCO offered solutions such as encompassing the manifolds w/ sand to help with part of the problem. After hearing someone complain that it would cost too much to remedy, we told them to buy us out if it was too expensive to do anything. They said that they are not in the business of buying land. He said the State and legislators depend on them because they keep industry and put money in Ohio. We never disputed their business, we had a problem with the way they were ignoring the effects of their business on neighbors. After that point, we were under the impression that the state was under control of the oil and gas companies and there would be no way we could get help besides begging.
We had never heard or felt noise vibrations like this before, let alone with so much intensity. We mentioned again that we have small children growing up here being affected by this. This may even cause Vibro-Acoustic Disease (VAD) and we can't avoid it. We do not want ill will with them, nor do we want to try to stop or hinder any production or potential expansions. We were begging for protection from the new noise. Our property value has plummeted because of what they did and we are not able to sell without taking a huge loss. We moved our children's bedroom into the basement to block them from it and we added another bed so we can sleep down there with them on bad days. All we hear and feel is very loud noise, day and night. Before we knew the problems associated with some compressor stations, I had gone to an ear doctor because I started having problems hearing and getting vertigo or feeling car sick. He told us that further communication was to be with their attorney. I spoke to her about the noise here and asked her questions. Her exact words were "we won't do anything about our noise problems because if they do anything for us then they'll have to do it for everyone else". She said that they never do anything for problems that occur with neighbors near any of the gas plants and are not likely going to regardless of how bad it is. We told her we were living here years before they built the compressor stations that are causing this problem. I pleaded with her and told her I could send her information on the effects of these noise levels and how unsafe it is to live here now after what they did at the plant. It is hard to accept why they are jeopardizing our health when they can do something to protect us from it. She said she already knows the problems associated with the compressor stations, understood and sympathizes but that it doesn't matter.
