Stand up Again Ohio! Sign a HB194 Referendum Petition Today!

When We Are Ohio filed 1.3 million signatures to repeal SB5 with the Secretary of State, we showed Gov. Kasich and his allies that we are united against his extreme policies.  Polls have shown again and again that the overwhelming majority of voters are against SB5.  In fact, polls have also shown that if the November 2010 Election were held today, John Kasich would not have won.

So what can Gov. Kasich, Speaker Batchelder, and the rest of the "Anti-Middle Class Boys" going to do when the entire State of Ohio is united against them?

Cheat.

House Bill 194, sponsored by the now infamous Rep. Mecklenborg and signed by Gov. Kasich, would make it harder to vote in Ohio, hurting access to voting and foiling voters' efforts to express their views through the ballot box.

The bill was forced through the legislature and has been drafted, adopted and signed to benefit one party's voters and to exclude others. In any competition, changing the rules to benefit one team over another is tantamount to cheating, which in elections, is the most egregious form of voter fraud.

HB 194 will:

  • Reduce by mail absentee voting to 3 weeks from 5 weeks and reduce in person absentee voting to 2 weeks
  • Ban in person absentee voting on Sundays and every Saturday after the noon hour
  • Ban in person early voting during the last weekend before the election
  • Make it more difficult for Election Boards to open extra offices in the community to make it more convenient to vote early
  • Stop local Election Boards from sending absentee ballot applications unsolicited to all eligible voters
  • Stop local Election Boards from paying postage on return absentee ballot requests or on the return of absentee ballots

H.B. 194 will increase the amount of people voting in person on Election Day, bringing back the long lines of 2004 and the potential of multiple hour waits for Ohioans to exercise their Constitutional rights to vote.

We can stop them, but only with your help.

Right now, ProgressOhio, groups and individuals across the State have come together in an effort called "Fair Elections Ohio" to place a citizen's veto of Hb194 on the ballot in 2012.  By letting the people decide, we can not only stop this suppression in the short term, but we can stop the implementation of the law until after the November general election.

We need the first 1000 signatures as soon as possible so please make time to come and stand up against Kasich's bus one more time.
